When Cassie and I heard about Sonar Music Festival through other abroad students on the train, we were intrigued. I was going to Barcelona that weekend anyway, and it would be fun to experience a music fest in a different country, especially since I was missing the Chicago ones. Google told us some awesome djs were playing, so we bought tickets and booked a hotel a day early. It was Cassie’s first festival!

After a five hour high-speed train ride where we half slept half whatever and stole other people’s seats so had to move mid-ride (lol), we arrived in Barcelona. We headed straight to our lovely hotel, picking up snacks and booze on the way. We pregamed by listening to EDM and getting ready together, psyching ourselves up for what was sure to be a fun night!

The venue for Sonar by Night was at Fira Gran Via, which was maybe a stadium but looked more like an enormous warehouse with lots of stages both inside and out. Stabily tipsy and feeling good, we decided to get one drink before choosing a stage to dance at. Unfortunately this is where the night began its quick end. Remember when I said mixed drinks were absolutely massive? Kinda forgot about that. We ordered ONE vodka redbull each, and looking back they must have poured an entire redbull with just as much vodka into a medium sized movie-theater soda cup. Not wanting to hold drinks while we danced, we wisely decided to chug them 🙈. Next:

Dancing, Go-Karts (aka climbing into one and then having someone sweetly point out we cut the entire line of people and also neglected to pay), Gluten Consumption, Bathroom Selfies (see below),

and the realization that we had somehow gotten WAY more intoxicated than either of us had intended, at which point bed and Jurrasic Park sounded like a great idea. We lasted about 3 hours total at Sonar. Day 1 success.
